"We went 'n' rented a place down on the Gulf, in Biloxi, after the plantin' was done one year. Hadn' been there but a day when this big storm blew up in th' evenin'. It'as over purty quick, but it sho' did raise some hell fuh a while there!

"Well, we got back home th' next week an' I started tryin' to get some o'them storm sounds on th' synthesiza. It could do wind 'n' thunda purty good--even some bird sounds. I recorded a few passes of it 'n' mixed th' two best versions togetha."--Uncle Hassell, taped interview with HT, May, 1989

Once he had figured out the parameters that would allow him to imitate the sounds of weather on his monophonic synth, Uncle Hassell played several improvisations into a tape-delay loop system using two reel-to-reel machines. As he mentioned, the two best versions were later mixed together (quite seamlessly, too) to create this impressionistic piece.
