about

Night of the Orange Moon (4:30)
Recorded using an Echoplex tape delay and Aunt Bunte’s Yamaha organ. (She enjoyed playing sentimental favorites such as "In the Gloaming" and "Beautiful Dreamer" on the instrument, while her husband was taking it in a whole other direction.) Uncle Hassell had this to say about the inspiration for the title:
"I was thinkin' about this night, aw, it musta been about 1948, when me and Til (my grandfather, Henry W. Tilbury, Sr.--HT) went fishin' and frog-giggin' out at Thomas' Pond. The moon came up a real deep red and then it stayed orange when it was way up in the sky, after it shoulda turned white. You don't see that too much. I stayed up damn near all night, just settin' 'round the fire, lookin' at it." (Taped interview with HT, May, 1989)
